IP CCTV High Definition
IP CCTV cameras are more than just a basic camera that sits at the end of a coax cable as they have web server technologies built in to them meaning they can transmit alone directly across existing PC networks including the Internet for direct access without a DVR. This also means some can upload clips of footage and stills to a web server and even utilise on board SD card recording. These cameras are cabled using modern CAT5e/CAT6 cable (computer networking cable). This also gives you the added ability to upgrade the cameras if you so wish at a later date as the cable is future proof (COAX cable cameras are limited arguably to a maximum of 2.3 megapixel)
Benefits:
• Excellent resolution and clarity
• Feature rich and flexible means of transmission, these cabled to an existing network rather than directly to the recorder itself.
• POE (Power Over Ethernet) cameras are powered via the single wired network connection
Negatives:
• More costly for a multi camera system
HD over Coax CCTV
HD over Coax, HD-CVI and HD-TVI also known as Turbo analogue.
You can get full HD picture quality just like IP CCTV but record it using a DVR (Digital Video Recorder).
This technology sends a special digital signal which is capable of supporting this increased resolution via a direct connection to each camera.
Benefits:
• Superb resolution and clarity
• More affordable than IP
• Can be the most cost effective upgrade route when replacing an analogue system, so no need to rewire!
Negatives:
• Less flexibility/quality than a IP CCTV camera
• Lesser quality when zooming in on recordings (becomes pixelated facial recognition limited)
• Less camera choice.
• Rapidly becoming a dated means of CCTV communication.
